The finished top.

Here it is. I just reviewed it yesterday at Patternreview with other wearing options as well.

Here's a close up of it:

I really like the style because it's just a non-binding, roomy top with still a bit of current fashion. As Lily commented in my pattern review, no one can tell I have a short waist in this top :) . I was rereading my Adele Margolis' book last night, "How to Make Clothes that Fit and Flatter", and she is SO right in saying fashion is an illusion.
Off to working on some purses and my funky print tee.

I am in awe. Your top is a perfect fit. This pattern is on my list to get. Thanks for mentioning Adele Margolis' book...I'm off to check it out. :)

I like this! I need to log onto PR so I can read your review.

I've been re-reading that same book before bed the last few nights. A.Margolis has some very insightful passages throughout, definitely making this a real gem. Your top is very flattering!

My library doesn't have that book. :-(

Your top looks great, I might have to pick that pattern up. I think, but I'm not sure, that a long top will work well to camouflage how long waisted I am.

That is a really great top! Maybe I will try it too. It seems like either cropped or long things work well with my short waistedness, but not stuff in between that hits right at the waist. Do you find that as well?

Cute print on that top!

Robin,

Yes, I find that as well. And when I'm making tee shirts, there is always a very fine line between too short, making me look very short waisted, and too long where it hits me too close to my widest point.

There have been several jackets I've made recently where I've had to add length because the (default pattern) hemline just doesn't look good on me. One example was the boxy McCall's 5007 jacket that I had to add 3" in length right below the waist. Leaving it at the original pattern length would have made me look horribly odd shaped--all legs with a head on top.

I swear I spend (or is that waste) more time debating about the right hem length in the mirror than is necessary. So much work involved in creating the "illusion" of a well-proportioned figure!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone!

And Debbie, why do you think I picked up that book to reread it LOL :) ? Because I read on your blog that you were re-reading it. Adele's books are such a delight with incredible fashion/sewing/alteration wisdom that it's a pleasure to reread it again and again.

Beautiful top! I love the neckline. "Fashion is an illusion" - I like that.

That is a nice top. I wouldn't have thought of using a longer top to camouflage a short waist.

Love it. I made that pattern in a wild print (short sleeve version) and I adore it! Yours turned out great...I may have to crank out a long sleeve version too! Mary
