Did you hear the thumps?

That's my head banging against the wall. I'm trying to find a nice edge finish for my knit top with my ancient serger. It's just not cooperating as well as I'd like. I think I'll just do a 4-thread seam finish. My rolled hem just wasn't looking right with the fabric wanting to curl over once it was done. Kind of like pane velvet when you cut it. Even a flat edge didn't look that nice.

Tinkering with my settings with the 4-thread regular seam finish looked clean and the fabric behaved nicely with it. And when the stars are in alignment with my serger, the finish looks professional. It took those stars about 90 minutes to get there though. Swearing under my breath while doing it, "It's time to get a new serger!"

Your title really caught my attention!! Cute (but frustrating, eh) story!!
What kind of a serger do you have now? Dream of having??

I hear you! My serger just isn't cutting the mustard, either!
My mom sent me one that's at least a little newer than mine, but still not the best...

My serger's only about a year old, and it pulls things like that too, believe it or not. It's a temperamental creature for sure. Now that Janome 900CP coverstitch machine- that thing is a workhorse. It's never a prima donna, never behaves differently with the same settings like my serger will. I'm almost thinking of buying a simpler model of a "more mechanical, less electronic" type as that seems to be the ticket with the CS machine.

I use my ancient serger for serging only, and got another machine strictly for coverstitching and rolled hems. I haven't looked back yet. Go for it!
